So was I once myself a swinger of birches. / And so I dream of going back to be. / It's when I'm weary of considerations, / And life is too much like a pathless wood / Where your face burns and tickles with the cobwebs / Broken across it, and one eye is weeping / From a twig's having lashed across it open. "Birches" – Robert Frost
Who am I? I would like to say that I am a Swinger of Birches. I am analytical, though art and literature enthrall me. I seek out the excitement and imagination that I don't always find––the Swinger's imagination. I seek the comfort found in the Swinger's sanctuary. Like the Swinger of Birches, I yearn for the imagination. I yearn for the escape.
I am a student; I am a learner.
I love music, and books, poetry, and art. I believe that art has obligations to delight and teach the consumer. Teach here means teaching a lesson or a message, and/or providing a palpable emotional response.
My birch branches are my music, my friends, my movies, and my family.
I am in college, studying Biology (Pre-medicine), but my interests are far more varied.
I enjoy tennis, skiing, writing letters, musicals, social events, running, driving cars, and riding bicycles.
I only drink my coffee black or I will not drink it at all.
My music interests range from The Avett Brothers, Mumford & Sons, Bright Eyes, and Manchester Orchestra, to, The Story So Far, The Maine, and Alexandre Desplat.
This blog will trace my journey through college, my interactions with the world around me, and my interactions with the culture I'm steeped in. Please join me. Explore the outer reaches of the Birch Swinger's imagination, anchored in the concrete of my life's journey.
Climb a branch and swing down with me.
